Nebraska Girls Flag Football Teams Prepare for Historic National Championship Appearance in Indianapolis
OMAHA, Neb. – Next week, Girls United's 10U and 12U flag football teams will travel to Indianapolis to compete at the National Championships after earning bids through dominant performances at the Minnesota Regional Tournament earlier this summer.
The trip marks a historic milestone for the organization and comes at a pivotal moment for girls flag football, one of the fastest-growing sports in the country. As the sport continues to gain momentum across Nebraska and nationally, these young athletes will have the opportunity to represent their community on one of the biggest stages in youth flag football.
"In our second year together, Girls United tripled in size from the year prior,” Joe Lee, 10u head coach of Girls United Flag Football, said. “This season marked our first attempt to win an NFL Flag regional tournament, and we had two teams achieve that goal. Our 10u and 12u teams each became the first for their age group from Nebraska to win a qualifier to the NFL Flag national tournament."
The teams will compete against some of the nation's top youth flag football programs while representing Omaha, Nebraska, and the growing movement for girls football throughout the Midwest.
As the teams continue their preparations for the trip to Indianapolis, Girls United is actively seeking community partners, sponsors, and donors to help cover travel, lodging, and tournament-related expenses.
